undangling conversations

Its a still life water color,
Of a now late afternoon,
As the sun shines through the curtained lace
And shadows wash the room.
And we sit and drink our coffee
Couched in our indifference,
Like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
In the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.

And you read your emily dickinson,
And I my robert frost,
And we note our place with bookmarkers
That measure what weve lost.
Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm,
Couplets out of rhyme,
In syncopated time
Lost in the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.

Yes, we speak of things that matter,
With words that must be said,
Can analysis be worthwhile?
Is the theater really dead?
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow,
I cannot feel your hand,
Youre a stranger now unto me
Lost in the dangling conversation.
And the superficial sighs,
In the borders of our lives.

I've been listening to Simon and Garfunkel lately. I like their stuff. "I am a Rock" is also a good song because it's so misleadingly upbeat and then it has pretty solemn words- that kind of contrast gives an emo-ish mood some brevity which I really appreciate.

My grandpa listened to their stuff too. I never really got to know him; he died when I was about two, but apparently I used to lay on his belly on a couch, and he would watch me with fascination because I was a cool and interesting little kid. The thought of it makes me happy- imagining his face (which I only know from photographs) watching me in delight.

I've been pretty happy all weekend. Sasha's birthday was so fun. Heidi taught me a new song. We went on the swings a lot and pole danced on the playground. Then Allison's party was really chill and we met up with Mike and some more cool people. I had a really good time.
Now the sun is kind of out. It's half past October. There's plenty of homework. But in the words of yet another Simon and Garfunkel song..

Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile.
