ribbon

ribbon, ribbon through my life
unraveling, fraying in the strife.

tie to others and hold strong
rippling through where you belong.
formed into a delicate bow
thoughts immerse, feelings in tow.

tug a little at this side
flowing through without a guide
the shiny texture and smooth feel
move through false and onto real.

serve a purpose, decorate
distinguish the fact from the fate.
tied around, you shall bind
braiding the patterns of my mind.

ribbon, ribbon, you flap in the wind
wondering how you've loved or sinned.

drape across the open window
reflect the gleaming sun's warm glow
fluttering through with felicity
last, though marred, for eternity.

weaving through the vague success
loop at "no"; wavering "yes."
know the supposed and then the truth
tumbling through my fading youth.

your vibrance sustains with my age
a lacing so steadfast, bright and sage.
careening through with liberty
not to do, but simply to be.

ribbon, ribbon, we as press through
i sew my life through the threads of you.
we taper, we flicker, and we shine
you glide onward, you ribbon of mine.
